Uludağ Üni. Tıp Fak. Göz Hast. A.D., Bursa
In the first 24 hours following cataracts surgery, toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) may occur secondary to surgical trauma, lens remnants, bacterias, sterile toxic substances and other unknown causes. It is charecterized by blurred vision, corneal eodema, and/or hypopion and a large immobile pupil. Differential diagnosis of this syndrome must be done together with early bacterial endophthalmitis which develops 4 to 7 days after surgery. Recovery through cortisone treatment is a spesific characteristic of this syndrome. In recent years, many differerent intraocular materials from various countries have been used, so in this article the importance of the origin of the pharmaceuticals is emphasized.
