The change in cristalline lens thickness (LT) with cycloplegia is a result of lens elasticity. In our study the change in LT was quantifi ed with swept source optical biometry, the effect of aging was evaluated, and the subject was shortly reviewed.
Material and Method: All 36 eyes of 36 patients aged between 20 and 39 (group 1) and 40 and 60 (group 2) years were included in the study. The measurements were taken in roomlight before and after dilation with using swept source optical biometry. The difference of LT due to dilation were compared between the groups. Results: The mean change in LT after dilation was 0.08 ± 0.02 mm in group 1, 0.04 ± 0.01mm in group 2 and statistically signifi cant (p < 0.001, p = 0.012). The change in LT between group 1 and 2 was statistically signifi cant (p = 0.015).
Conclusion: The change in LT was maximum in young ages and decreases over time. The fi ndings were compatible with the changes occurred in the lens with aging.
