3Prof. Dr., Ulucanlar Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi, Ankara - TÜRKİYE Purpose: To evaluate the effect of 1% cyclopentolate hydrochloride (CH) eye drop on anterior segment parameters.
Materials and methods: The study was included 39 healthy subjects that their ages ranged between 18 and 40 years old. After the scanning of the anterior segment of each eye by using Oculus Pentacam HR, 1% CH (Sikloplejin, Abdi İbrahim) eye drop was performed to the each eye. After 45 minutes of 1% CH application, the second measurements were taken with Pentacam and the values of the central corneal thickness (CCK), mean keratometry (Kmean), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber angle (ACA), and pupil diameter (PD) were compared.
Results: The study included 19 male and 20 female and the mean of the all subjects was 29.23± 6.55 years. The mean ACD, ACV and PD measurements between the two sessions were statistically significantly different, whereas the mean CCK, Kmean and ACA were not.
Conclusions: 1% CH eye drop instillation leads to significant increase in ACD, ACV and PD. Effects of cycloplegia on these parameters should be taken into account for especially biometrical measurements before the cataract surgery.
