3M.D. Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital, Eye Clinic, Izmir/TURKEY Purpose: To measure the cornea and anterior chamber parameters using Sirius® topographer in healthy adults and to determine the variation with respect to age, gender and right-left eye separation.
Materials and Methods: 214 eyes of 107 healthy patients were evaluated prospectively. The central corneal thickness (CCT), simulated keratometry value (Sim K), horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID), corneal volume (CV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV) and anterior chamber angle (ACA) of all cases were measured using Sirius topographer.
Results: The median age of patients (54 males and 53 females) was 28 (18-56) years. The mean of CCT was 541.5±31.7 micrometers. The mean of the other parameters were measured as Sim K 43.26±1.44 diopters, HVID of 11.86±0.39 mm, CV of 58±3.3 mm3, ACD of 3.01±0.33 mm, ACV of 160.1±33.1 mm3. The median of ACA was 43? (22?-53?). Measured parameters were compared with respect to right-left eye separation, and no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) was observed. Comparison in terms of gender revealed, in women, smaller HVID (p=0.001), smaller ACD (p=0.006), smaller ACV (p=0.013), smaller ACA (p=0.001), and yet larger average Sim K (p=0.014). Correlation analysis indicated statistically significant negative effect of age on CCT, CV, ACD, ACV and the ACA (p<0.05), but a positive effect on sim K (with r=-0.174, -0.181, -0.520, -0.555, -0.309, 0.176, respectively).
Conclusion: Some of the parameters measured with Sirius® showed significant differences with respect to age and gender. In women, HVID, ACD, ACV and ACA are smaller, while Sim K value is larger. CCT, CV, ACD, ACV and the ACA decrease, while average keratometry value increase with age.
