Special Dunya Eye Hospital, Adana/TURKEY Non-penetrating glaucoma surgery was proposed by Fyodorov and Kozlov in 1989, as the removal of the corneal stroma behind the anterior trabeculum and the Descemet's membrane, and called this deep sclerectomy (DS). Later viscocanalostomy was described by Stegmann in 1991. Lewis has developed canaloplasty in 2007. Currently, deep sclerectomy, viscocanalostomy (VCS) and canaloplasty (CP) are the most commonly used non-penetrating procedures in glaucoma surgery. The juxtacanalicular trabeculum and the inner wall of the Schlemm's canal, were targeted in non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, as the main aqueous outflow resistance is located at these anatomical structures. Three techniques, described as non-penetrating filtering surgery, have been discussed herein; in terms of teir efficacy and safety.
