Neovascular Glaucoma
Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Istanbul/TURKEY
Neovascular glaucoma is a devastating ocular disease with a guarded visual prognosis, and no current medical or surgical treatment appears to have a high success rate. The most effective treatment involves sufficient retinal ablation to reduce the level of retinal hypoxia and retard the subsequent angiogenic cascade. However, this method is only effective when performed at an early stage of the disease process. The best hope for effective treatment of neovascular glaucoma is increased understanding of the angiogenesis pathway.
