Acute and Intermittent Angle Closure Glaucoma
Mersin University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Mersin/TURKEY
Angle closure glaucoma forms approximately a quarter of all glaucoma subjects and is responsible for approximately half of the blindness cases related to glaucoma. Asians, women, older aged people and the ones with positive family history are under increased risk. Pupillary block is the principal mechanism underlying primary angle closure. Although there are new technological devices for angle evaluation, gonioscopy is the main diagnostic procedure. Medical treatment, laser peripheral iridotomy and argon laser peripheral iridoplasty are the leading treatment options in primary acute angle closure glaucoma.
