Material and Method: The right eyes of 990 healthy subjects (660 female, 330 male, mean age: 60.96±14.70 years) were included in the study. Optic nerve head imaging was performed by using the spectral domain OCT (Cirrus HD-OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec Inc, Dublin CA).
Results: The mean optic disc area was 1.99±0.37 mm² (range,1.24-3.68 mm²), rim area 1.38±0.26 mm² (range, 0.00-2.68 mm²), cup/disc ratio 0.50±0.15 (range, 0.06-0.82), vertical cup/disc ratio 0.47±0.15 (range, 0.05-0.77), and cup volume 0.17±0.16 mm³ (0.00-1.21 mm³).The mean thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) was 95.01± 8.56 μm (range, 76.00-127.00 μm). RNLF thickness in the superior quadrant was 117.93±14.19 μm (range, 79.00-179.00), in the inferior quadrant 123.79±14.57 μm (range, 90.00-199.00 μm), in the nasal quadrant 71.80±9.73 μm (range, 51.00 to 108.00 μm), and in the temporal quadrant 66.56±10.49 μm (range, 46.00 to 140.00 μm). The age showed significant negative correlation with the RNLF thickness (r=-0.0340 p<0.001) and rim area (r=-0.088 p=0.005). The disc area showed significant positive correlation with the rim area (r=0.265 p<0.001), vertical cup/disc ratio (r=0.541 p<0.001) and cup volume (r=0.529 p<0.001).
Conclusion: The quantitative measurement of ONH topography obtained with this study provides a normative database for a Turkish population with spectral domain OCT.
