Glaucoma, as a multifactorial, progressive and neurodegenerative group of diseases, ends up visual loss without appropiate treatment. There are cases with optic nerve damage and progression even in the presence of the normal intraocular pressure (IOP). In that case another mechanisms play role. It is possible to stop progression and control ganglion cell loss through understanding these mechanisms. Then effective treatment strategies might be developed. In this article, damage mechanisms shedding light on glaucoma physiopathology, related current treatment methods and the ideas and studies answering the question of what could be done in the future will be discussed.
