Dynamic Contour Tonometry and the Ocular Pulse Amplitude: Clinical Utility and the Relevant Factors
M.D. Asistant Professor, Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Denizli/TURKEY
Ocular pulse amplitude (OPA), which is defined as the difference between systolic and diastolic intraocular pressure (IOP), is accepted as an indirect indicator of choroidal perfusion. OPA has become subject to investigations in many diseases in which choroidal perfusion changes might occur, particulary in glaucoma, either as a prognostic or diagnostic parameter. Dynamic contour tonometry records 100 IOP measurements per second by transcorneal method and determine OPA by providing dynamic IOP measurement. This article reviews OPA measured by dynamic contour tonometry in different clinical settings and the relevant factors.
