3Beyoğlu Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları, İstanbul, Prof. Dr. Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty in phakic and pseudophakic patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.
Material and Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed medical records of patients who underwent selective laser trabeculoplasty in pseudophakic and phakic patients with open-angle glaucoma. Mean decrease in IOP, success rates, and ocular side effects were compared in phakic and pseudophakic eyes.
Results: Forty-nine eyes (26 phakic, 23 pseudophakic) of 37 patients were enrolled in the study. The mean decrease in IOP at 1 year after SLT was 5.0±3.0 mmHg in phakic eyes and 5.3±2.9 mmHg in pseudophakic eyes (p=0.78). The success rates in phakic and pseudophakic eyes were 60.0% (SD±10) and 60.9% (SD±10), respectively (p=0.95). The rate of side effects, such as early IOP spike, ocular discomfort, and uveitis, did not differ significantly between the two groups.
Conclusion: Selective laser trabeculoplasty seems to be an effective and safe treatment procedure in phakic and pseudophakic eyes. Keywords : Selective laser trabeculoplasty, phakic, pseudophakic, open angle glaucoma
