⁴Van Devlet Eğitim Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz, Van, Uzm. Dr. Purpose: To investigate the frequency of glaucoma in patients with Parkinson disease.
Materials and Methods: Ophthalmologic examinations including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, cup/disc ratio and computed visual field examinations were done to all patients. Computed visual field examination was done only to 12 co-operative patients.
Results: Mean age of patients was 62.22±9.94 (46-90) years old and mean Parkinsonian period was 5.18±3.96 (1- 20) years. Best corrected visual acuity range was changed from hand motion to 1/1. Mean intraocular pressure was 13.72±4.05 mmHg and 13.51±3.23 mmHg in right and left eyes, respectively. Intraocular pressure was high or in upper limit only in three patients (19/22, 20/22 and 28/12 mmHg). Cup/disc ratios were in normal limits (<0.3) in all three patients. Cup/disc ratio was 0.5 in only one patient (visual field examination and intraocular pressure were normal) while all remainder 26 patients had normal cup/ disc ratios.
Conclusion: Glaucoma was not seen with Parkinson disease in our hospital. Keywords : Glaucoma, parkinson disease
