Dr. Purpose: To measure the impact of Neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) laser capsulotomy on the macular thickness, in patients who underwent phacoemulsification (FE) and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation surgery.
Materials and Methods: Fourty-four patients who had posterior capsule opacification underwent Nd: YAG lazer capsulotomy, with a minimal energy and shooting number lazer capsulotomy was performed with optical cohorence tomography before, 1. day, 1. week, 1. and 3. and 6. month after laser capsulotomy. The post-treatment measurements were compared with pre-treatment measurements. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure and anterior and posterior segment evaluation were performed.
Results: The macular thickness measurements obtained before laser treatment were similar to those measured in the post-operative period (p=0.391). Preoperative visual acuity was 0.47 and improved to 0.85 at the end of 6 months (p<0.001). The intraocular pressure did not change significantly in the first 6 months (p=0.579)
Conclusion: Neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet laser capsulotomy does not influence the macular thickness in the first 6 months, after treatment Keywords : Neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet laser capsulotomy, macular thickness, optical cohorence tomography
