3Ankara Atatürk Eğ. ve Arş. Hastanesi, 2. Göz Kliniği, Ankara, Asist. Dr. Purpose: To evaluate the results of the B-MICS operation with the usage of aspheric, diffractive-refractive multifocal Zeiss-AcriLisa 366 D IOLs which can be implanted through a 1.8 mm incision.
Materials and Methods: Twenty-seven eyes of the 17 patients were operated with the B-MICS technique and Zeiss-AcriLisa 366 D multifocal IOLs were implanted through 1.8 mm incisions. The mean age of the patients was 48.6±14.2 and mean follow up time was 14.7±5.0 months. Operations were made bilaterally in 10 patients and unilaterally in 7 patients. Four eyes of 2 patients were intervened for RLE and in 2 cases, LRI were combined to the surgery. Patients were evaluated for their far, near and intermediate distance visual gains, quality of vision and SIA.
Results: Patient’s postoperative mean monocular uncorrected visual acuities were for far, near and intermediate distances; 0.78±0.17, J1.15±0.46, J4.0±1.33 and best corrected visual acuities were 0.99±0.05, J1.09±0.27. J3.0±1.50 while mean binocular uncorrected visual acuities were 0.98±0.05, J1.07±0.27, J2.4±1.52 respectively. Mean contrast sensitivity measurements were 1.54±0.33, 1.62±0.28, 1.28±0.36, 0.93±0.30 without glare and 1.33±0.28, 1.53±0.29, 1.15±0.32 and 0.84±0.35 with glare for 3, 6, 12, 18 cpd respectively at the 90th postoperative day. The final measured average incision width was 1.93±0.18 mm and SIA was calculated as 0.18x90 with the vectorial analyses method. Both near and far spectacle independence rates were 100%postoperatively.
Conclusion: When Zeiss-AcriLisa 366 D intraocular lenses are implanted by using B-MICS technique, with the contribution of the advantages of this technique to avoid astigmatism, expected results from multifocal lenses can be obtained in terms of functionality, efficacy and safety.
