²Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Mikrobiyoloji A.D., Ankara, Prof. Dr. Purpose: To investigate the relation between pseudoexfoliation (PEX) and Herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 50 patients with PEX glaucoma and cataract (Group 1) and 40 cataract patients without glaucoma and PEX (Group 2). All participants underwent a complete ophthalmic examination. HSV was evaluated in all anterior lens capsule specimens with polymerase chain reaction.
Results: HSV DNA was not detected in the anterior lens capsule specimens of group1 and 2.
Conclusions: The results of this study showed that HSV was not associated with PEX. Keywords : Pseudoexfoliation, infection, herpes simplex virus
